My name is Michelle Le Cornu and I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands.

I am an artist who works primarily with oil paints although in the past two or three years I have begun to experiment with newsprint, inks and graphite. I feel compelled to create in order to try to resolve the conflicts in my own mind - the abuse of power being a theme that often underlies my work.

My particular concern is to examine how truth and reality reside in the passing around of information and retelling of stories. I am very excited by the way the slightest distortion of relayed fact, intentional or not, can change the future. I need to consider the uncertainty and positioning which take place in reporting of news and to reflect on whether it really matters.

I am much more interested in the process of the work than in trying to shape any particular conclusion. In some of my current work I am allowing the behaviour and fragility of the materials to determine the outcome of a story with a view to engaging in a stimulating dialogue with the result.
